How Does 3D Animation Work?

Conceptualization

3D Modelling

Once the concept and storyline has been finalized, we start designing the main characters using Autodesk Maya. After the main characters and side characters, the elements of the environment are designed and then assembled to make the desired backdrop.

Texturing & Rigging

The characters and elements require a texture and colour for their complete look, which are provided at this stage. Additionally, every character that is meant to move is provided with a skeleton, so that movement can be enabled in the next stage.

Animation

At this stage, we make the keyframes and add movements to the characters. On 3D software, the process is simpler, more advanced, and more efficient as you can make lesser keyframes as compared to the time frames made in 2D animation.

Lighting & Camera

To make the video, light needs to be added separately for better effects. A virtual camera is also set in the software that allows you to create scenes for your video with greater precision. 

Rendering

At this stage, we get to see the final effect of the 3D design and animation done in the earlier stages. The combination of lighting effects, camera placements, shadows, transparency, and other special effects help to provide the final look and feel of the scene.

Adding Sound

Adding audio files to the video is one of the last stages. The voice-overs and background music is refined thoroughly, removing all background noise. They are mixed and added along with other sound effects. 

Final Video

All the final minor edits are made to ensure smooth flow of the video, till the final video is made. After playing and replaying the file several times, the final video is exported for release.
