How VFX Works – The 3 Stages of Filmmaking with VFX

Making any video with VFX requires plenty of stages of work. Broadly, the pipeline is divided into three main stages:

Pre-Production Phase

At this stage, the storyboard of the video or film is made after a thorough research and development on the storyline. Rough sketches and wireframes are made for different scenes of the video.

Production Phase

The 3D modeling of characters and the environment takes place at this stage. These models are provided with texture and animation too.

Post-Production Phase

Adobe Photoshop: Primarily, it is a great image editing software that you can use to enhance your landscapes. However, the software also has time frames for animation. It is more appropriate for 2D animation.

Adobe After Effects: This motion graphics software allows both 2D and 3D animation and has plenty of animation effects for the same. You can create a whole new animated video with subtitles and sound on this software.

PF Track: The Pixel Farm or PF Track is a software known for photogrammetry, meaning tracking camera placements and changing 3D environments from static images or video footages. It  is used widely in the VFX industry by many major companies.

The main role of a cleanup artist is to refine rough sketches to develop refined characters and elements of the environment. They are usually required for 2D animation.
